The freetown Christiania, created in a squatted military area in 1971, offers a lot of cultural events, activities, concerts, restaurants, a meaningful, alternative living and solidarity for many people, and production and sale of many useful and solid products, such as the Christiania bike. Fredens Ark, Ark of Peace, in freetown Christiania. About 80 people live in this proctedted building. It was built in 1837 and originally the main building of the army barracks used for dormitory and officers' quarters. The Ark of Peace is the largest building in Christiania - and the largest half-timbered house in North Europe.
