This image was made in the late afternoon at the U Bein Teak Bridge. The bridge spans 1200 meters across the Taungthaman Lake in Amarapura, Myanmar. It is an iconic symbol of Myanmar and is still a functioning bridge, as local monks, residents and tourists make their way across the bridge. The bridge was built about 1850 and is reported to be the oldest and longest teakwood bridge in the world. Construction began when the capital of Ava Kingdom moved to Amarapura. The bridge was named after the mayor who built it. The bridge was made with wood from the former royal palace in Inwa. The bridge is suffering from decay and the government plans repairs.
