Commentary on the "40 Traditions" ORIGIN Persia DATING Timurid period MEDIUM 9 sheets of 242 mm x 168 mm The commentary, attributed to the Prophet, was compiled and translated by the Persian poet Ahmad al-Jami (1414-1492) and was copied by the calligrapher Muhammad al-Sabzevari. The Arabic text (in large muhaqqaq characters)is written in gold with vocalizations in blue, the Persian one in smaller rayhani characters in black. The line spacing and intercolumn separations are drawn in gold. The first two sheets are illuminated in gold and colors.
