The caption of this image that dates to the early 1920s reads: “Curtis twin-motor hydroaeroplane. Two eight-cylinder motors of 100 horse-power each give this battleplane a speed fo 85 miles per hour. It can be fitted with wheels and landing gear for field use.” The invention of the hydroplane is due to Glenn Curtis who, in 1908, fixed floats to his aeroplaneas safety devices, and Fabre who added the floatsas an integral part of the machine with the express idea of rising from the surface of the dea.
