Order PODICIPIDiE. The Grebes are easily distinguished from all other birds bytheir compressed tarsi, broadly lobed toes, and their obsoletetails. They are distributed on all the large continents of theworld. Nine species are known in South America, one beingrepresented in British Guiana. Genus TACHYBAPTUS Reichenb.
