The Day of the Dead festivities in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, California.

The Day of the Dead street festivities in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, California. This festival is said to be one of the most authentic Day of the Dead celebrations outside of Mexico. Members of the community create alters to celebrate the lives of people that have passed on, usually within the past year. The festival includes the altars, traditional and new music, traditional dancing, food, and gathering in the spirit of the ancestors. These food carts, frying up hot dogs or sausages with bacon, onions, and peppers are not only prevalent during the festival, as they are common street food choices, along with the taco trucks in the Fruitvale neighborhood.
