The Flushing Female Association was organized February 7,1814, at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth W. The object was to discuss the situ-ation of the poor childrenof the neighborhood whoseparents were not able togive them an education andwho were in danger of be-ing led into vice and im-morality. At this home thefoundation of the first freeschool in Flushing was Association was incor-porated in 1884. Industrialclasses, sewing, carpentry,chair caning and cookinghave been supported formany years. Classes havebeen conducted for adultsduring several winter ses-sions. Two clubs, one formen and one for boys, were organized in the winter of 1912-1913.
