Aviation in Britain Before the First World War- the work of Samuel Franklin Cody in Airship, Kite and Aircraft Aeronautics 1903 - 1913 A glider kite designed by S F Cody in flight. Cody and his sons Vivian and Leon flew the glider successfully many times. However in September 1905, Vivian Cody was seriously injured when the glider crashed. This led Cody to concentrate on powered flight using designs closer to his kites than his glider.
