Some of the oldest cherry blossoms trees overhang the walkway around the endge of the Tidal Basin. Each spring, the blooming of the nearly 1700 Japanese cherry blossom trees around the Tidal Basin (and about 2000 others nearby) is a major tourist draw for Washington DC.
