When the pistondescends, the small graduating valve 31is pulled down by the stem 9 (Fig. 3),making openings 27, which permit thepressure in feed-valve reservoir 25 to bedischarged into port 29 and out at the point30, where a whistle, if desired, may beplaced. This latter operation permits thepressure in feed-valve reservoir 25 to dis-charge and keep even with the pressureon the under side. When brakes are re-leased, the piston 7 again assumes theupper position, closing the graduating ex-haust ports and opening check valve 41,thus permitting the main reservoir pres-sure of the second engine to reinforce thepressure from the head engine.
