German bombing map of Liverpool. German map of Liverpool, UK, used on 22 June 1941 for bombing raids during the Second World War. This is one of a series of maps used by German Luftwaffe bomber pilots during night raids over the UK. The bright colours aided visibility at night. Docks (outlined in red) were the target. Just right of centre, a yellow circle marked 'Achtung' warns of an internment camp. A key across bottom identifies the map features in German: eisenbahnen (railway), hauptstrassen und orte (main roads and locations), walder (woods), landschaft (countryside), ziele (target), and kartenmitte (centre of the map).
