The battle was fought between German troops and marines , British & French units Following the allied victory the French renamed the wood Bois de la Brigade de Marine meaning 'Wood of the Marines Brigade' --- Bataille du bois Belleau pendant la Première Guerre mondiale - Un soldat du village de Belleau pointe du doigt le bois. La bataille a eu lieu du 1er au 26 juin 1918 près de la Marne en France.
