View E of the C15th churchyard gateway & Medieval churchyard cross at SS Cyriacus' & Julitta's Church, Luxulyan, Cornwall, England, UK. The gateposts, side benches & central coffin stand are of granite, the double gates with spear-headed rails & a decorative overthrow are of wrought iron. The round head granite cross beside the west tower is medieval or earlier, it is said to be the Cross of St Juliot. It is not in its original position & has been set in an uncut boulder. It has a wheelhead with a raised Maltese cross carved on each face. The Parish Church is late C15th with a granite ashlar Perpendicular tower, the S porch (cenre rear) has an embattled (battlemented) parapet. The church was restored in the C19th. Julitta was a noble Christian widow martyred with her three-year-old son Cyriacus at Tarsus around AD 304. A document of 1412 names them as patrons of Luxulyan but the original dedication may have been to the Cornish woman St Juliot (Ilud, Julianna). Luxulyan meaning 'the chapel of Sulyen (St Sulian, Suliac, Sulien) is first recorded in 1282.
