Episkopi monument built with parts of the ancient temple of god Apollo, the most impressive of Sikinos island, Cyclades, Greece

Episkopi is the most peculiar and impressive historical monument of Sikinos situated at a distant region in the mainland. Surrounded by byzantine chapels was built by wall stones and fragments as well as columns and marble sculptures of the Greek ancient temple of Pythios Apollo. Other peculiar architectural structures -such as the vaulted crypts- identify its relation with the roman burial monuments type, dated the 3rd cent AD. During 17th century the building was changed into a domed post byzantine church. Trails of all parts of the island's history are obvious on its architectural pattern and that is what makes it unique!
