He never knew it would turn into so much more. “I found significant enjoyment in it and even had the idea to create a Thursday night modern worship service. Through that I got to know a lot of people here,” said Anthony. “Then when COVID hit and we started filming the services for Facebook, we decided I’m a good fit here.” In November 2020, Anthony was assigned as the chaplain’s assistant. Immediately, he said knew he wanted to use it as an opportunity to affect the community at Cherry Point. “I’ve always thought that I had musical talent,” said Anthony. “Because of that, I have a responsibility to give those talents back to the community. Being a part of a community and giving back to it in a musical aspect feels like something I am called to do.” Anthony said he hopes his music will help create an entirely new fellowship of service members. “I hope to have made a change in the atmosphere at Cherry Point,” said Anthony. “I am passionate about talking about things that might be difficult, to bring awareness to things such as mental health. I have learned a lot from the chaplains on those matters. I hope through the service I created we can start moving towards a safe space where people can be vulnerable and let themselves feel something.” If you are interested in attending the chapel’s Thursday night service, it begins at 6:30 at the base chapel. It is a nondenominational Christian worship service that features a live band and offers free food. Visit for more information.
