Arsenelna Metro station has one of the deepest Metro stations in the world at 102m below ground. The Kiev Metro system was the first rapid transit system in Ukraine and the third one built in the USSR. The system carries around million passengers a day, accounting for about one third of Kiev's public transport load. In 2005, the total number of trips exceeded 600 million.
