View ENE of Dun Colbost Iron Age broch, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, sited at the E end of a rocky knoll in moorland above Leinish Bay & Loch Dunvegan. Much of the circular drystone tower has fallen but its walls still stand to between 1m & high. The entrance passage (visible in the centre of the rubble) faces SW & there is at least one mural cell plus signs of ground level & upper storey galleries within the double wall. The broch is surrounded by the remains of a substantial outer wall or outwork. Exploratory clearance & excavations were carried out at & around the broch 1989-1993 under the direction of Ann MacSween & David Reed. This photograph was taken in March 1985 before the entrance was cleared of rubble in September 1989.
