The science and practice of dental surgery. n-ship of the premolars andmolars, in which the upperarch is markedly too farforward and the mandibleand lower teeth but little,or not at all, too far — The firstessential is to expand theupper arch, if necessary, and in some cases thelower. The next requirementis to correct the curve ofocclusion. The form of thecurve of occlusion and itsrelationship to the mandibulararticulation has not oftenbeen .sufficiently taken intoconsideration. For this pur-pose Snows face-bow andan anatomical articulator mustbe used; the models can thenbe adjusted in the articu-lator in their natural position,as in prosthetic work. Theapplication of these appliancesto orthodontic treatment hasbeen referred to by R. (110) and isfully dis-cussed bv Leuman M. Waugh(167). The latter writer pointsout that methods of treat-ment that ignore the preserva-tion or production of a correctrelationship between thecurve of occlusion and themandibular articulation areliable to permit of 207.—Inferior retrusion (one unit), and secondary jjrotilination of upjierincisors. Rotation of upper incisors and postplacement due to deficientanterior development. The upper arch is very narrow, and tlie upper molarsare all in lingual occlusion. This narrowness is probably responsible forthe post-normal position of the mandible (retrognathism), which is otherwisewell developed. (.J. H. Badcock.)
