A clock tower is a prominent monument on Main Street in Tobermory (Argyll and Bute), it lies on the approach to the Fisherman's Pier. Built in 1905, it comprises a tapered square granite tower on a stepped base, with the lead-faced clock and topped with an overhanging pyramidal slated roof. The tower was endowed by the noted traveller Isabella Bird (Mrs Bishop; 1831 - 1904) in memory of her sister Henrietta Amelia Bird who died of typhoid in Tobermory on 4th June 1880. It is the work of Bishop's friend, the English architect Charles Whymper (1853 - 1941) and was a copy of his clock-tower in Houghton (Cambridgeshire), which had much impressed her, and where the sisters had lived in the 1840s.
