Main gate way of a shrine / temple in Kanazawa, Japan.

Main gateway, known as Shinmon, of Oyama Jinja, a Shinto shrine in Kanazawa City, northern Japan. This is quite an unusual style, incorporating elements of Japanese, Chinese and Dutch styles. The gate was built in 1875 after the temple, dedicated to the first lord of the powerful local Maeda clan, Maeda Toshiie, was moved from nearby Utatsuyama. The design was undertaken by a Dutch architect, hence the stained glass on the third story which apparently once allowed it to serve as a lighthouse. The gate was designated an Important Cultural Asset in 1950.
