Civil service workers protest salary, and pension cuts - Thessaloniki
Peaceful protest by police, firefighters, ambulance services, coastguard in Thessaloniki on new economic measures promoted by the government, with the reductions in salaries and pensions. Τhe concentration started from Aristotle's Square at 17:30 with a speech of union bodies. Then followed a demonstration which went smoothly until the "General Secretariat of Macedonia and Thrace" (former "Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace"). The reason behind the demonstrations, the inauguration of the Thessaloniki International Fair (today 10th Sept 2011) and the presence in the city's prime minister, George Papandreou and other Ministers of Government.
