Orchid flower (Epidendrum tripunctatum, also known as Encyclia tripunctata or Pollardia tripunctata). The white structure is the lip. It is a specialised petal that attracts pollinators to the flower and provides them with somewhere to land. This orchid is found only in western Mexico, where it grows on trees (it is said to be an epiphytic orchid). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
