Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723), English architect and astronomer. He is best known for having designed St. Paul's Cathedral and other churches in London after the fire of 1666. Wren also lectured in astronomy at Oxford and paved the way for Newton's work with his speculation on the nature of gravity. He was a charter member of the Royal Society and rose to its presidency in 1681. He was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral and his tablet reads: \Si monumentum requiris, circumspice\"; \"If you would to see his monument, look about you\"."
