Wren also lectured in astronomy at Oxford and paved the way for Newton's work with his speculation on the nature of gravity. He was a charter member of the Royal Society and rose to its presidency in 1681. He was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral and his tablet reads: \Si monumentum requiris, circumspice\"; \"If you would to see his monument, look about you\"."
