Thewords coming from heaven are given in George van Egmond, Bishop of Utrecht,behind whose kneeling figure the patron-saintof the diocese is seen, St. Martin, throwing a goldcoin into the beggars cup. At the top God the Father may beseen; from 1622 to 1932 this portion of the win-dow was yellow glass, the image of God havingbeen taken out in accordance with reformed-protestant views. Mr. Schouten restored it after a drawing byLepelaer of the 17th century. Further it is obviousthat in the right hand portion of the lower partof the window the figure is lacking before whichthe donor kneels; it was fairly certainly theTrinity. From the Transactions of the City Cor-poration and of the Vestry it is pretty clear thatthis part was taken out about the year 1622. Thiswindow is the oldest in the building; its positionis not accidental.
