GLEN COVE, N. Y. The fourteenth annual mum show of the Nassau County Horticultural So- ciety was held in Pembroke hall, Glen Cove, October 31 and November 1. Com- petition was strong in all the forty-one classes. The mums, as usual, were of the largest size and finest quality. The vegetables exhibited were exceptionally fine, as were the roses, carnations, vio- lets, decorative work and fruit. Par- ticularly deserving of notice were the large specimen bush and standard Hooper Pierson mums and an unusually fine collection of foliage plants ex- hibited by Eobert Marshall, gardener to Captain J. E. De Lamar. This group was awarded the medal of the National Association of Gardeners for the most meritorious exhibit in the show. Spe- cial mention is due also to Eobert Jones, gardener to Mrs. Percy Chubb, for a fine display in the cut chrysanthemum classes; to George Ferg^uson, gardener to Mrs. Payne Whitney, for a beautiful display of carnations; to William Churchill, gardener to F. W. Woolworth, for roses; to F. O. Johnson, gardener to Mrs. Harold I. Pratt, for violets; to Frank Petroccia, gardener to Irving Cox, for a fine collection of vegetables; to Alex. McKenzie, gardener to A. V. Davis, for a collection of six varieties of apples; to William Noonan, gardener to Cartledge, for a group of chrys- anthemums; to John W. Everitt, gar- dener to Mrs. John F. Pratt, for an extensive display
