Triple Geared EngineLathe, equipped with all geared head and constant speed motor drive,giving twenty-seven spindle speeds. The controlling apparatus being mounted on the lathe itself, allthat was necessary for installation was to level up the machine andattach the wires. The capacity of the lathe is 43-in. diameter overthe shears by 23-ft. 11-in. between centres. The shaft shown in the lathe is a thrust shaft of a triple expansionengine. It is 13%-in. finished diameter in the body, while the endflanges are 25-in. diameter and the weight of the forging was approxi-mately 7,000 pounds. The tail and intermediate shafts for this enginewere also turned on this lathe, some of the forgings weighing in theneighborhood of 9,000 pounds.
