Themould No. 605 is of very rude clay, which has been much exposed to theconflagration and is thoroughly baked. Here, again, there are no per-forations nor funnel-shaped holes through which the metal might havebeen poured into the beds; it is therefore certain that the beds were in 436 THE THIRD, THE BURNT CITY. [Chap. VIL this case simply filled with liquid metal and covered witli a flat moulds of this stone represent merely bars; similar moulds occurredhalf-a-dozen times. A mould of sandstone similar to No. 601 was found at Piling and Hampel informs me that such also occur at Szihalom; hut theseHungarian moulds are all of the category before described, the fused.
