Suddenly wesaw the light shining through the branches, and leavingthe forest behind us, we stepped out on to a wideexpanse of grass. I drew a deep breath, feeling likesome one who has long been shut up in a dark place,and for the first time sees once more the light of day.(Illus. 141.)
