Metropolitan Railway 1898 E-class tank locomotive No. 1 Seen here at Swanage Station during The Swanage Railway Autumn Steam Gala on the 17th October 2014. "'Met No. 1' was the last steam locomotive built at the Neasden Works of the Metropolitan Railway between 1896 and 1901 which was absorbed into London Transport during the 1930s. This locomotive worked the last steam-hauled London Transport underground train in 1961. The Swanage Railway is a heritage railway line in Dorset Southern England .The line was from 1886 a branch of the London and South Western Railway from Wareham to Swanage. Passenger service was withdrawn in 1972 and after closure a heritage railway group revived part of the line; it too used the name Swanage Railway and now operates a 6-mile ( km) line, which follows the route of the former line from Norden, via Corfe Castle, Harman's Cross and Herston Halt to Swanage. In the Autumn of 2014 an agreement was reached with Dorset County Council after the three miles of line formerly owned by Network Rail – passed to the county authority to connect with the main rail network at Wareham and a trail passenger train service is planned to start in 2015.
