E W Marland an oilman philanthropist U S congressman and 10th governor of Oklahoma began building this mansion in 1925 and it was finished in 1928 Built of stone by John Duncan Forsyth an Englishman Marland admired the Davanzat Palace in Florence Italy which inspired this home It contains 48 000 square feet 4 floors an elevator 12 bathrooms three kitchens a ballroom and 7 fireplaces E W Marland lost control of his company Marland Oil Company and only lived in the mansion for a few years
