Alternative Theatre
A scene from one of the productions of the 'Fira de Teatre' (theatre fair) in Tàrrega, northeast Spain. This yearly event, held over a long-weekend in September, is considered one of the most important dramatic festivals in Europe, drawing acts and visitors from all over the world, and swelling the town's 20,000 population to over 100,000! The productions vary enormously, from amateur one-man circus-acts to serious drama by professional theatre companies. Many of the performances take place outside, and for four days and nights the streets and squares of this rural Catalan town come alive with the sights and sounds of the theatre.
