Elephant's Head, the vertical shaped wall in this image was carved by the retreating ice 15000 years ago during the last Ice Age


The vertical walls at Ausable Chasm gorge are made of Potsdam sandstone. The sandstone walls were dramatically carved during the last Ice Age (Pleistocene) about 15000 years ago. The wall section in the image is called the Elephant's Head.
