Aerial view (drone) of the Floating Mosque Masjid Terapung on the Sarawak River in Kuching, with traditional blue dome, spire and also water barrage.

The Floating mosque, originally said to be for Indian Muslims but in practice no such limitation exists, opened on the 1st March 2019. It has been described as increasing the beauty of the riverside and is certainly a striking building, illuminated at night alongside the Darul Hana Bridge and state assembly. The three mentioned plus the new buildings plus the not yet finished museum could also be seen as large Islamic structures that now dominate legacy colonial buildings and Kuching's Chinese temples and Christian Churches on the skyline. It makes the river view of Kuching not representative of the religions in the city. Add in the new fountain and light show on the river it is now unrecognisable from just 5 years ago.
