Refugees waiting to register at the Macedonian border, in Gevgelija, after having left Greece. During 2015, an estimate of more than a million people took this same route through Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia, escaping the war in Syria, and various other conflicts (Afghanistan, Iraq, other ISIS related wars, etc.) to seek asylum in wester Europe. This precise border crossing: Idomeni/Gevgelija, will become two months later the symbol of the closure of this road, dozens of thousands of people being stuck there, Macedonia denying them entrance.
