Spacious as well as imposing isthe pile which has recenth- been erected for the Provincial Legislature onthe Grande Alice, just outside St. Louis Gate. It includes not onl^^ thetwo Legislative Chambers, but the Departmental Offices, the whole forminga massive square, each front of which is 300 feet long and four stories inheight. The style is that of the seventeenth century—French ; the mainentrance is handsome and striking and the interior ornate. There is anextensive and valuable library, rich in its store of documents preser^edfrom the French regime.
