In all the apparatus for the injection of vapours, the impregnated air leavesthe nozzle of the catheter with far less energy than is the case with theordinary air-douche. Perforation of the membrana tyrnpani greatly facilitates theentrance of vapours into the middle ear. The temperature of the vapour will vary with the nature of the medica-ments employed, some of which volatilize at a low, others at a high, tempera-ture. The duration of the injection depends likewise on the nature of thedrugs employed and upon the amount of irritation which is developed duringthe action of the vapour in the ear or pharynx. Generally the time of theapplication varies from 3-10 minutes.
