The Good Samaritan

The engraving is of a painting by Julian Alden Weir (1852-1919) an American artist who became an early American impressionist but received his early training in more traditional styles with his father, himself an artist and art instructor. He studied at the National Academy of Design and the Écoles des Beaux Arts in Paris. He became President of the National Academy of Design. He adopted impressionist methods in his paintings but his work on portraits and traditional landscapes is more highly regarded. The Good Samaritan is a good example of his work
