The young bright stars in this galaxy are ionising the gas inside and around it. Ionised oxygen (green) is detected by ALMA (the Atacama Large Millimetre Array), while ionised hydrogen (pink) is detected by the Subaru Telescope. This galaxy is some billion light years distant, in the constellation of Cetus. Image published in 2016.
