A late 19th Century view of the market place in Derby, a city lying on the banks of the River Derwent in the south of Derbyshire, of which it was traditionally the county town. Overlooking the square is the Guildhall designed by Richard Jackson in the Classical style and completed in 1730. The turret clock designed by John Whitehurst was installed on the face of the building in the mid-18th century.
