The Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore, south of Siena, is situated in beautiful countryside southeast of the city.

The Abbezia di Oliveto Maggiori is situated in a beautiful hilly, forested area some 28km south east of Siena in Tuscany. It was founded around 1300. It is most famous today for the 27 frescoes painted by Sodoma between 1505 and 1508. Today the abbey's monks welcome visitors but much of it remains off limits to tourists. There is a shop and a wine cellar here the abbey's produce can be purchased. The monks also restore old and rare books to supplement their income.
