Parents from local Community School District 24 protest the proposed Rainbow Curriculum in New York City public schools in City Hall Park in 1992 The curriculum which used books such as Heather Has Two Mommies Daddy s Roommate and Gloria Goes to Gay Pride was created ostensibly to teach tolerance in public schools but the more conservative school boards and voters in New York opposed the curriculum because of the difference in teaching tolerance and imposing sexual values which the opponents perceived the curriculum was doing Richard B Levine
