In this connection it is worth while noting that the Ameri- can Railway Association, which keeps tab on the car situation, reported as of De- cember 14 that the car shortage had de- veloped until there was a shortage of 34,392 cars, as against a surplus of 76,814 cars at the corresponding date last year. Growers have not forgotten the trouble they had in getting coal during the severe weather last January and all save those whose habit it is to take chances will see to it that they have sev- eral weeks' supply of fuel on the place at once, as this year's car shortage will add to the diflSculties of last year the moment real winter sets in.
