A mysterious connection exists be-tween the nerves in the feet, especiallybetween those in the great toe, and thebrain and nervous system. Dr. Brown-Sequard gives an account, in some lec-tures of his, of a patient who, wheneverhe bore the weight of his body on theright toe, became violently insane. Asurgical operation, whereby a nerve wasbisected, cured him. He also speaks ofa similar instance where pressure on thetoe caused severe nervous effect of the constant pain causedby distorted or inflamed feet wears uponthe system; persons have been knownto be made seriously sick by it. Manygive up walking and taking any kind ofexercise, because their feet hurt them , from want of exercise, diseasesets in; for no person who cannot moveeasily can long be well. Particularly do sore feet hasten thecoming on of old age and decrepitude, for reasons which can readilv be seen. 17 People as they grow
