Goddard rocket research. Workers in a workshop at the Mescalero Ranch, New Mexico, USA, working on the rockets designed by US rocket scientist Robert H. Goddard (1882-1945). The workers here are A. Kisk and C. Mansur. Despite receiving little recognition during his lifetime, Goddard is now hailed as a father of modern astronautics. He explored mathematically the feasibility of reaching high altitudes using rocket propulsion, and in 1926 built the first liquid-fuel rocket. His speculations about Moon rockets were ridiculed by his contemporaries, and his achievements were only recognised after his death with the dawn of the Space Age.
