At the George Hotel, Silsoe, Bedfordshire,on January 18, the tenantry and other friends onthe Wrest estate combined to celebrate the eveof the ninetieth birthday of H. Trethewy, Esq.,, the highly-respected agent for Earl CowpersBedfordshire estate. Upwards of thirty of thetenant-farmers and friends dined together, and. Mr. H. TSETIIEWY. the chairman, Mr. Crouch, of Camhow, the oldesttenant-farmer on the estate, made some observa-tions on Mr. Trethewys estate managementduring the past fifty-eight years, and subse-quently presented to him, on behalf of the tenantryand other well-wishers on the estates of Wrestand Blenham, some silver-plate bearing a suit-able inscription. Mr. Trethewy on receivingthe presentation thanked those present for theirgift and kind appreciation of his agency. Herecalled the many changes he had seen on theestate during his fifty-eight years stewardship. Mr. Trethewy is not ouly a model agent andsuccessful agriculturist, but an enthusiasticarboriculturist, and what is of more interest tothe readers of the Gardeners Chronicle, he hasbeen all his life an ardent horticulturist.
