E. Arnold, reports the general foreman of signals are nine main-tainers, one maintainers helper, and one substationforeman. Of the maintainers, eight are assigned todefinite sections of the road, while one is called a reliefman who works at any point on the line where hisservices are required and who takes the place of anymaintainer that is laying off. The helper works underthe orders of the relief WESTCHESTER SIGNALS—ELECTRIC INTERLOCKING MA-CHINE FOR SWITCHES AT COLUMBUS AVENUE JUNCTION Six of the signal maintainers work twelve-hour shifts,one day man and one night man being assigned to eachof three sections into which the road is divided. Oneof these sections includes the interlocking at 180thStreet station and all signal apparatus between 180thStreet and the West Farms junction, giving a total ofeighteen high signals and mile of four-track routein addition to the interlocking plant and dwarf second section includes the North Avenue Towerin New Rochelle and all signal apparatus on the NewRochelle branch as well as the signal apparatus southof the Columbus Avenue interlocking plant as far asthe territory covered by the previously described sec-tion.
