An otoscope (auriscope) consists of a funnel-shaped tube that is inserted into the ear canal, a light, and a magnifying lens. The device gives an illuminated view of the outer ear canal and eardrum. Wax build-up in the outer ear canal, inflammation, and infections of the outer and middle ear can be observed using an otoscope.
