Emanuel ,his eldest son, bythis time had married a Swabian girl, named Caroline Line,and Gabriel had married a Swiss girl named Appolina Her-man. The families of both were among the early settlers onthe Pequea. Emanuel built a house near where the Run putsinto the Conestoga, and Gabriel built another near the Forks,close to a big spring. Their houses were log cabins. In a fewyears they were replaced by the regulation houses, twenty-fourfeet square; and the house that Gabriel built in 1730 of hewedwalnut has remained, and after the lapse of 156 years bids fairto last as much longer.
