SORROW AND SUPERSTITION. 211 On the contrary, I teach and insist that, beyondestablishing the momentous question, If a man die,shall he live again ? —beyond a sensuous demonstra-tion of the fact of personal immortality—the conveningof circles and the accumulation of repetitious man-ifestations are not beneficial, but weakening to boththe sensibilities and the DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORS TRYING TO EXPLAIN SPIRIT MANIFESTATIONS. And except for scientific investigations—that is, totest the delicacy and wondrous power of spirits overmaterial things—it will be found that dark circles are valueless and injurious. As means of carrying con-viction to skeptical minds, the lightless sessions amountsimply to this: Persons convinced by such evidencesusually require periodical repetitions of facts to keeptheir night-encompassed faith from languishing. But, although Spiritualism is not, according to this 212 JETS OF NEW MEANINGS. definition, a new religion, it is the herald of a higherera of spiritual enlightenment. It hospitably welcomesevery fresh thought in philosophy, and inspires everyadvancement in science, society, and life. A free de-velopment of the essentials of true Religion is one ofthe accompanying effects. It must be remembered that in Arabula and else-where I have employed this term, Spiritualism
