An old engraving of clothing worn by women in Tudor times in England. The style of dress dates from the late 15th and early 16th centuries during the reign of Henry VII (1485–1509). Notable here in women’s attire are what is worn on the head. These embroidered hoods – these sometimes came down below shoulder level – hid most of the hair. The visible hair is braided. The outer dresses were floor length with a square cut bodice and high waist. This attire would have been worn by those in society with money, landed gentry, the nobility and others connected to the royal court.
